French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker Review

French-door fridges combine form and function. They feature stylish double doors that show the large fridge on top, and a freezer drawer below. Special features like through-the-door dispensers, high-end ice machines and adjustable flex drawers make them stand out from the crowd.

We consulted Ladina Schopf - interior designer, architect and founder of LS Projects - for her tips on how to select the right one. They looked at the capacity of storage, layout, and energy efficiency among other factors.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

As the name suggests, GE's Profile series targets consumers who want to incorporate cutting-edge technology in their kitchen. This fridge has them all, from a Keurig K cup coffee maker inside the door to a sophisticated dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. This refrigerator is costly and I expected more.

This fridge is a good choice, despite the small blip. It has a large freezer compartment, which is quite uncommon in counter-depth Slim French Door Fridge freezer door refrigerators. Additionally, it holds a good amount of frozen foods in comparison to similar models.

Inside the fridge, you'll find 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment has 18.5 cubic feet, which is typical for a French-door fridge at this price. It comes with a decent size icemaker in the left door. But it's not the biggest one I've seen.

You can alter the shelves in both compartments to make a custom storage solution. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS is also attractive. The LED lighting is a nice addition and the storage bins feature a third shelf that folds up beneath itself so that you can store large items. The drawers come with temperature controls, so you can set them to Meat, Beverage, or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, however I found their plastic textured coatings a bit rough on the fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator includes the complete set of features you'd expect from a fridge in this price range with Wi-Fi and app support via GE's SmartHQ software. The app, which is available for iOS and Android devices, lets you control your fridge from anywhere in world, and offers many options for customizing. It also alerts you when a door is left open, when the fridge or freezer needs to be defrosted and when it's time to change the filter.

It would be nice to have GE PYE22PYNFS had Precise Fill the option that is that is available in a few GE refrigerators that allows users to select the number of cups they would like to disperse. It does have an indicator on the display of the fridge to show how much water you have remaining, but that's not as effective as Precise Fill.

The Bosch French-door Refrigerator is an impressive product. It's designed to appear like a seamless piece in your kitchen. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also features a veggie compartment that keeps fruits and vegetables fresher for longer, and two compressors to preserve food. The ice maker we tested was one of the most efficient, and it produces pyramid shaped ice using minimal water. This fridge is ideal for a single family or a kitchenette with a built-in appearance and top-of-the best food preservation.

The fridge was rated the best refrigerator in our Refrigerators test for a few reasons. Its freezer temperatures held firm at just a few degrees Fahrenheit, and never fluctuating by more than a fraction an inch. This is essential to preventing freezer burn. The fridge section of the fridge also did well. It reached the initial temperature set within an hour, and maintained the temperature throughout our testing.

Bosch is known for its high-end appliances and appliances, so it's not a surprise that this counter depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance with the option of connecting to your home Wi-Fi and Bosch's Home Connect platform. This app allows you to monitor and control your fridge from your smartphone or tablet. The refrigerator is pricey, but offers great features and functions at a fair price.

It is important to know the limitations of the fridge. It has a limited space for shelves, so you may need to be creative when storing tall items. The shelves are not resistant to spills and are easily stained or damaged by sharp items. It is easy to take out the trays in the fridge however, you must keep them clean to avoid the growth of mold.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S is an excellent counter-depth refrigerator that packs a lot of storage in a compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the fridge has the standard French Door Fridge Lock (Shinhwaspodium.Com)-door layout, with gallon-sized door bins on each door and two rows of spill-capture shelves, and a set of sleeker drawers. The top shelf on the right can be folded down to make space for taller items. There's also a full-width drawer for food items and an internal water dispenser.

One of the nice features of this refrigerator is that its Ice maker is located in the freezer, which makes it simple to move frozen ice to the fridge to be used when it is needed. The freezer has thoughtful design elements, for instance, sliding drawers to help you better organize the position of your items. It also has a huge bin that can accommodate plenty of frozen food and an additional container for storing ice.

Smart InstaView panel is a cool feature of the refrigerator. You can manage the temperature, lighting, and more of your fridge from your smartphone. It's a simple method to monitor your fridge and manage it, especially when not at home.

The Smart InstaView feature is neat however it doesn't improve the performance of the fridge. In fact, it took longer to defrost and chill foods in this fridge than other refrigerators we tried. This is likely due to its larger capacity.

The doors are a different issue with this fridge. They have sunken handles on the front that allow smaller people to open them from the bottom, however they're difficult for taller people to pull closed without slamming the doors. It would have been more effective if they had handles mounted on the front.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX is a good choice for those who want to combine the advantages of a French-door fridge's aesthetics with a more efficient layout. Its capacity is above average for a counter-depth model, and it cools evenly and has a great layout. It's also a little less than the most expensive counter depth refrigerators that have an ice maker, making it an attractive choice.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

This Frigidaire French door refrigerator is a great choice if you want a French-door refrigerator that doesn't cost a lot of budget. It's a basic fridge which may not be as attractive as its rivals however it has enough features to make it a good option. Its most important feature, the adjustable temperature drawer, helps to keep food items like vegetables and meat fresher for longer. It also has a large water dispenser and a decent ice maker that operates quickly.

The "Chill Drawer", which sits above the two crisper bins, is another great feature. This drawer lets you divert a portion of the refrigerator's cooling power directly to this area, which means you can put away food items that need extra attention. You can alter the feature using an adjustable slider that is located just on the outside of the drawer. You can also use this feature to set a general cooling level for the entire fridge though I've found that adjusting the generic settings tends to have a better effect than specific ones.

During my tests, the refrigerator's temperatures stayed fairly consistent across different areas of the refrigerator. The temperatures in the top, bottom and middle of the refrigerator didn't vary significantly from 38 degrees. This is a great performance, but isn't quite at the top of our ratings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also combine this fridge with a smart thermometer for more precise measurements of your fridge's temperature.

The exterior of the Frigidaire is made of grey-bodied stainless that has a "smudge resistant" finish. It blocks streaks and fingerprints better than other stainless steel finishes I've seen.
